Onze vacature

Educate future leaders in Hotel Business Management.

Share your passion with the next generation and sparking their enthusiasm for the world of hospitality business.

Connect practice and theory to shape the future of hospitality

We are looking for a lecturer who teaches beyond the hotel day-to-day operations and guides students in understanding the business of hotels from an ownership and long-term value creation perspective.

If this excites you, then this role has your name written all over it — and we cannot wait to welcome you with open arms at Hotel Management School Maastricht!

About the position

Take the next step in shaping the future of hospitality!

Your role as a lecturer:

As a lecturer, you guide students through the strategic side of the hospitality business, in both Dutch and English. You explore themes such as asset value and capital structure, brand relations and contract models, demand generation and revenue strategy, financial performance, leadership and stakeholder stewardship. You help students connect the human essence of hospitality to the broader economic and strategic systems in which hotels operate. You coach our students to understand not only how a hotel operates, but why it exists, how it performs, and what it could become. By integrating commercial thinking, human-centered hospitality, responsible leadership and long-term stakeholder value, you prepare them to move from operational awareness to strategic judgement. In doing so, you educate future decision-makers in the business of hotels and hotel management.

Your role as a coach:

You coach students in their academic progress and professional development. You contribute to a learning community in which students are challenged to grow into responsible and reflective professionals. In addition to lecturing, you supervise students during their internships, project-based education and applied research assignments.

How you bring this to life:

Your teaching focuses on developing students’ analytical, strategic and professional judgement. You translate relevant industry experience into structured, well-designed education.

Your contribution to our school:

You support the further development and continuous improvement of the bachelor program, including curriculum renewal and digitalization. Together with colleagues, you work on content alignment, assessment quality and coherence within the track.

Our team and work environment at the Hotel Management School Maastricht

At Hotel Management School Maastricht, we are preparing our students to be international game changers - people who not just understand the industry but who shape it, prepared to take initiative, work together, and keep learning. We are creating a vibrant, inclusive campus that connects people and ideas – a core value since 1950.

Our ambition is clear: to be the pioneering community in responsible hospitality, built on a rich legacy. A place where students, staff, alumni and industry come together to shape the future of our industry.

We are not just educating professionals. We are educating leaders – people who dare to think differently, take responsibility and connect with others.

This said, we can’t do this alone. Our strength lies in our community, our students, who bring energy and ideas, our staff, who inspire, guide, and support them, our alumni, who stay connected and give back, and our partners, who open doors and share their knowledge.

What we are looking for

  • You are a strategic thinker who sees hotels not merely as operational environments, but as complex, human-centered enterprises embedded in broader economic and societal systems. You value genuine human interaction and service excellence, yet you are equally comfortable discussing governance structures, contracts, asset management and long-term value creation.

  • You believe in the power of education and actively contribute to its continuous development. Small-scale and intensive learning environments suit you. You enjoy working closely with students, coaching them in their professional and personal growth, and holding them to high standards.

  • You operate comfortably in an international and intercultural context and are able to teach in both Dutch and English at near-native level.

  • You bring substantial senior management experience in international hotel management and are able to translate that experience into high-quality education.

  • You hold a master’s degree in hospitality, business or a related field, or are willing to obtain one within the first two years of employment.

What we offer

  • The size of the position is flexible: anywhere between 0.2 FTE and 1 FTE, depending on your availability. We start with a one‑year contract.

  • The starting date is August 17th, 2026.

  • The salary is a maximum of scale 11 according to the collective labour agreement for universities of applied sciences (cao-hbo). This corresponds to a minimum of € 4.427,64 and a maximum of € 6.677,44 gross per month based on a full‑time appointment.

  • Holiday allowance of 8% and a year‑end bonus of 8.3%.

  • A generous number of vacation days and the possibility to work in a hybrid format.

  • Professional development and employability hours, as well as a comprehensive vitality programme.
