Educate future consultants and decision-makers in hospitality

Connect practice, research and education to shape the future of hospitality

We are looking for a lecturer who guides students in understanding how to analyse and improve real business challenges in hospitality.

If you are able to translate complex practice-based questions into structured thinking, and enjoy developing the next generation of professionals who can make real impact, then this role has your name written all over it - and we look forward to welcoming you at Hotel Management School Maastricht!

About the function

Take the next step in shaping the future of hospitality!

Your role as a lecturer:

As a lecturer, you design and deliver workshops, lectures and learning activities in both Dutch and English. You bring structure to complex hospitality and business challenges by combining relevant theories, models and frameworks with real-world practice.

You help students understand not only how hospitality operates, but how to analyse, interpret and improve it. You actively bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that students are able to apply concepts in a meaningful and structured way.

Your teaching may contribute across different modules and phases of the program (e.g. M9–10, HOTS, and project-based education), depending on your expertise.

Your role in project-based education:

You supervise student teams working on (real-life consultancy) projects with external clients.

You guide them in:

  • Structuring complex business problems into clear and relevant questions.

  • Designing and conducting applied research.

  • Translating insights into concrete and feasible recommendations.

  • Managing stakeholders and communicating professionally.

You ensure that projects go beyond academic exercises and deliver real value for clients.

Your role as a coach:

You coach students in their academic progress and professional and personal development. You challenge them to take ownership, reflect critically, and grow into confident and responsible professionals and educate in personal leadership.

Your role in internship supervision:

You supervise students during their operational (abroad) and management internships and support them in connecting theory to practice, reflecting on their development and performance and in navigating challenges in professional environments.

You ensure that internships contribute meaningfully to both learning and career development.

Our team and work environment at the Hotel Management School Maastricht

At Hotel Management School Maastricht, we are preparing our students to be international game changers; people who not just understand the industry but who shape it, prepared to take initiative, work together, and keep learning.

Our ambition is clear: to be the pioneering community in responsible hospitality, built on a rich legacy.

A place where students, staff, alumni and industry come together to shape the future of our industry.

We are not just educating professionals. We are educating leaders — people who dare to think differently, take responsibility and connect with others.

What we are looking for

You are someone who:

  • Sees hospitality in an ecosystem, as a business and system, not just an operational environment

  • Has experience in consultancy, applied research or a comparable role

  • Is able to structure complex problems and translate them into clear analyses

  • Combines analytical thinking with a hands-on mentality

  • Communicates clearly, directly and effectively

  • Is able to teach in Dutch and English at near-native level

  • Operates comfortably in an international and intercultural context

  • You hold a master’s degree in hospitality, business or a related field, or are willing to obtain one within the first two years of employment.

What we offer

  • The size of the position is flexible: anywhere between 0.2 FTE and 1 FTE, depending on your availability. We would start with a one‑year contract.

  • The starting date is August 17th, 2026.

  • The salary is a maximum of scale 11 according to the collective labour agreement for universities of applied sciences (cao-hbo). This corresponds to a minimum of € 4.427,64 and a maximum of € 6.667,44 gross per month based on a full‑time appointment.

  • Holiday allowance of 8% and a year‑end bonus of 8.3%.

  • A generous number of vacation days and the possibility to work in a hybrid format.

  • Professional development and employability hours, as well as a comprehensive vitality programme.
